SANDE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that enriches lives through Culture, Cuisine and Community. We produce events that celebrate African American excellence in the food industry.
OUR MISSION
SANDE is dedicated to increasing awareness about the rich culinary heritage of African Americans, encouraging economic independence, and to combating childhood hunger, obesity and disease by teaching cultural heritage, cooking skills and nutrition to vulnerable young people and their families.

We strive to nourish families the old-fashioned way: at the kitchen table where proficiency, morals, self-esteem and respect for the community are passed on one meal at a time. Our nurturing programming uplifts families so that so they can thrive in the world around them.

OUR PROGRAM
SANDE has produced two signature events, in addition to its classes and workshops. The Children’s Picnic A Real Food Fair, co-presented each spring with Edible Austin Magazine, is a free public event that spotlights local, healthy food. Soul Summit: A Conversation About Race, Identity, Power and Food, was the first symposium to exclusively celebrate African American culinary foodways.
